Cali is the shortened form of the official name of the city Santiago de Cali. Cali simply referred to as Cali, is a city in western Colombia and the capital of the Valle del Cauca Department. But a year later in 1537 the city was moved to its present location by Captain Miguel Muñoz on orders of Belalcazar. He also appointed Pedro de Ayala as the first municipal authority. On July 3, 1810, the city of Cali which is also known as Santiago de Cali declared its independence from Popayan's Gobernación. After defeating the Spanish army, Simon Bolívar entered the city.
