Leh Palace

Stok

The picturesque village of Stok, famous for its 14th century Gompa founded by Lama Lhawang Lotus. The Stok Monastery belongs to the yellow hat sect of Buddhism, and is supposed to be the subsidiary of the Spituk Gompa. The colorful friezes, the images of Vajrapani, Avalokiteswar, Sakya Muni and his disciples, and the thrones are the major attractions of the monastery.

 

Zanskar

Zanskar, with its tri-armed valley system, is situated between the Great Himalayan Range and the Zanskar mountain. The region is inhabited mainly by the Buddhist population. Zanskar remains inaccessible for nearly 8 months a year due to heavy snowfall. Therefore, the months between June to September are considered best to visit Zanskar.

Alchi

The main image inside the Alchi Monastery of Ladakh is that of Vairochana. One can also see the images of the five Buddha Families and other attendant deities inside the monastery. These paintings and images are the rarest and most extensive examples of Buddhist art in Kashmir.

Nubra Valley

The most fertile land in Ladakh, Nubra Valley teems with flowers. The pleasant weather and natural beauty make this place a popular tourist destination.

Wildlife

Ladakh is home to some of the most exotic wildlife species. Thriving on the minimal vegetation, poor shelter, rocky terrain and bitter cold are the wild animals like Yak, Nyan, Urial, Churu, Ibex, Snow Leopard, Bharal, etc.

The nearest railhead from Leh Ladakh is Jammu, approximately 690 km away. Jammu is well connected with rest of the country through trains .
