Holiday Destination: Chakrata

The town lies above the Yamuna Valley in the Garhwal Himalaya and is approached from Dehra Dun either via Mussoorie or Kalsi. The latter is the commonly used one, but the road surface is pretty atrocious. Chakrata is a quaint little hill station and a cantonment area situated between Yamuna and Tons River. Chakrata was earlier known as Jaunsar Bawar and the region is mainly populated by Jaunsari tribes. Chakrata is an exquisite hill station.

Tiger Fall

It falls from a height of 50 metres and converges downwards into a small pond which provides a beautiful view. Tiger Fall is located towards the north-east side of Chakrata and is at a height of 1,395 metres above sea level. The view around the fall makes for an ideal place for outing.

 

 

Ram Tal Horticultural Garden

Strategically located in a picturesque location, Ram Tal Horticultural Garden is rich in varied flora and fauna. It is an ideal spot for bird-watching and picnicking. An apple garden and a natural pond in this horticultural garden are the key points of the place.

 

Kalsi

A beautiful place called Kalsi. Located here is an Ashoka Pillar Rock Edict, which was built in 450 B.C. This place is also significant because it represents the post warfare era of the ancient times when king Ashoka converted himself to the Buddhist faith. An important edict, worth mentioning is the edict made of quartz that is 10 feet long and 8 feet wide.

Chilmiri Neck:

this is the area where Garhwal Rifles Mess and quarters are situated. It leaves unforgettable impact on travelers due to its scenic view of dense forests. This is the ideal spot for watching natural beauty, watching birds of different colours and panoramic view of Himalayan peaks.

Hanol

The temple of the deity constructed in the ' Huna' architectural style elevated at 1429 mts. above sea level is 186 kms. from Dehradun It is believed that a demon lived here and devoured at least one man a day.
