Holiday Destination: Chaukhutia

A small town in Almora district of Uttarakhand located at banks of river Ramganga.This picturesque place derives its name from a Kumaoni word Chau-khut which means four feet. In Chaukhutia's context four feet means four ways. Fist way is towards Ramnagar, second towards Karanprayag, third towards Ranikhet and Almora and the fourth way is towards Tadaktaal, Kheera. From here the entire region is easily accessible. Ranikhet which is 45 km from Chaukhutia is on the Ramnagar-Badrinath highway. Chaukhutia's historical past and religious significance can be seen basking in its glory in nearby areas. Kali temple, Vaishno Devi's temple, ancient fort and ruins of Katyuri dynasty all makes Chaukhutia an explorer's delight .

Pandukhol

The caves built by Pandavas and where they lived during their exile period are situated here. An easy trek of 5km will lead you to these picturesque caves with glorious past.

 

 

Taragtal

Taragtal or Tarag Lake is around 2kms in length and 0.5km in breadth. Taragtal is one of the hidden jewels of Uttarakhand state. But the virgin beauty of Karagtal is what it makes it special. Karagtal can very well be developed as a tourist attraction centre.

 

Dwarahat:

Dwarahat is a nagar panchayat or a town area in Almora in Uttarakhand in north India. 18kms from Chaukhutia, Dwarahat is located enroute to Karnaprayag and is popular for a group of 55 ancient temples. As the name suggests, Dwarahat means way of Heaven where Dwara means way and Hat means Heaven. A visit to Dwarahat gives you a feeling of closeness with God. Though it is not a very popular education center of the region,

Lakhan Pur Temple:

Lakhanpur temple is situated just 6kms from Chaukhutia on Jorasi-Chaukhutia road. This temple was constructed by the Katyuri kings. A small fair is also held at Lakhanpur temple every year in the month September to November..

Rudeshwar Mahadev Temple:

it is situated at Sanana on Bhikiasain-Chaukhutia Road along the banks of Ram Ganga River. This is one of the historic temples of Lord Shiva in Kumaon region. It is believed that Lord Rama had worshipped in this temple that’s why the river flowing from nearby is named after Lord Ram as “Ram Ganga”. It is also evident from the marks on the temple’s walls and Shivling that here worshipped have been held for many era. For past few years, Almora’s biggest Shivratri Mela is being held at this temple.
