Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou province of Southwest China. It is located in the centre of the province, situated on the east of the Yunnan Guizhou Plateau, and on the north bank of the Nanming River, a branch of the Wu River. The city has an elevation of about 1,100 meters. Guiyang is renowned for its colorful culture represented by various ethnic groups. It is said that in ancient times, the city was surrounded by dense bamboo groves and was famous for producing a musical instrument known as Zhu. Hence the city is known also as Zhu. Guiyang is one of China's Spring Cities like Kunming. The Red Marple Lake Flower Stream Park and an abundance of historical relics of the Ming and Qing dynasties, such as the Jiaxiu Tower, Wenchang Pavilion, Yangming Cave and Qingyan Ancient Town. All of these scenic spots have their own interesting stories. Guiyang is home to more than 30 minority ethnic groups including Miao, Buyi, Dong and Hui. Consequently the city abounds with unique folk culture and traditions that give rise to many colorful ethnic minority activities.

Qianling Park

Qianling Park, situated at the northwest of Guiyang city, is only 1.5 km from the downtown area. It is one of the rare large urban parks in China. The park was named after Qianling Mountain, which is the No.1 Mountain in Guizhou. Qianling Park is well known for its bright mountain, beautiful water, quiet forest and ancient temple. Here you can enjoy numerous charming attractions, such as old trees spreading their shade, the Lake rippling in the breeze, the Nine winds Path snaking up the mountain and fish swimming in the Seven star Lotus Pond.

Huangguoshu Waterfall

Huangguoshu Waterfall is one of the largest waterfalls in China and East Asia located on the Baishui River in Anshun, Guizhou province. It is 77.8 m high and 101 m wide. The main waterfall is 67 m high and 83.3 m wide. It is composed of more than ten ground level and underground waterfalls. The Huangguoshu Waterfall is the center of the scenic spot. It is the biggest waterfall in Asia, spanning 68 meters high and 84 meters wide. In flood season, it looks just like the Milky Way pouring down, making the precipitous cliffs tremble while fine mists of water droplets rise from the plunge pool. It is particularly superb when a rainbow arch appears from the plunge pool of the waterfall under the shining sun. In dry season, the water separates into several streams falling down from the cliffs like a fairy maiden’s elegant hair, charming and graceful. On the top of the precipice opposite the waterfall stands a pavilion, from which visitors can enjoying the waterfall.

Miao Village

Miao village, where more than 1,000 Miao families dwell, is a vivid museum to explore the culture and tradition of Miao people. The buildings of Miao people, the so called Wooden Stilt Houses, are constructed leaning against the mountain and facing the water, which makes the front part of the building hang above the water. What’s more, all of them are made of wood without any metals or bricks, which is considered marvelous even today. The clusters of Wooden Stilt Houses are scattered in the mountains and above the waters, which is a splendid and rare view when espied from other places.

Jiaxiulou

Jiaxiu Lou, also called Jiaxiu Tower, is on a boulder in Nanming River in Guiyang. It was built in 1598 and it is the landmark of Guiyang City. Jiaxiu Lou is a 20 meter high, three floor structure with a three eave hipped roof, and has its outer joinery propped up by 12 stone pillars. The tower is surrounded by a marble balustrade. It is linked with Fuyu Bridge which provides access to both the south and north banks of the river.

Kaili Folk Museum

Situated in the Miao village at Miao Mountain, Kaili Folk Museum is called the Origin of Chinese Folk Arts, which is also one of the Hundred Distinctive Museums of China. It is interesting that the architectural style of this museum overflows with unique folk features, with the double eaved roof of Dong group’s drum town in the center turret of the building and Wooden Stilt House of Miao nationality in both sides of the tower. The museum has three floors, housing a furniture center and exhibition area. The exhibition hall of Kaili Folk Museum is composed of a series of eclectic exhibition halls Guizhou general picture hall, Minority amorous feelings hall, Minority costumes hall, Modern folk craftwork hall, as well as Dragon boat hall.

Hongfu Temple

Hongfu Temple is located in Qianling Park, about 15 km away from downtown Guiyang. With a history of 300 years, this temple may be nothing among the famous ancient temples in China. However, it is the most famous Buddhist site in Guizhou province. Hongfu Temple was founded by Monk Chisong in the eleventh year of Kangxi’s region of Qing Dynasty. At the beginning, the temple was very poor, just no more than a small hut. However, Chisong believed that it should become a reversed shrine. Then under the help of local officials and residents, a majestic temple was completed and named Hongfu Temple. Hongfu is a Chinese word which means to develop Buddha’s spirit and to benefit mankind. From then on, Hongfu Temple was to become the most significant Buddhist temple in the area.

Jiaxiu Tower

Jiaxiu Tower, also called the first scholar"s tower, is situated on Fuyu Bridge over the Nanming River. Jiaxiu Tower is the first choose for those people who come to Guiyang. Jiaxiu Tower, which is built in 1598, is a 20 metre high, three floor structure with a three eave hipped roof. It is said that Jiaxiu Tower is the symbol of Guiyang. Once you arrived there, you need to pay 10 yuan to go up to the top of the tower. It looks nice to see when you go there at night just when they started turning on the light of the tower.

Qingyan Ancient Town

Qingyan Ancient Town, one of the most famous historical and cultural towns in Guizhou Province, lies in the southern suburb of Guiyang. As an ancient town, covering an area of 741 acres, Qingyan Town was originally built in 1378. Nowadays, because of its long history and strong cultural atmosphere, Qingyan Ancient Town has become an attractive destination for numerous domestic and foreign tourists. Qingyan Ancient Town covers an area of 3 square kilometers. Qingyan Ancient Town has a well planned architectural style, hundreds of sites of relics, and an influential local culture. As a military garrison during ancient times, Qingyan Ancient Town was built of stone. There are Buddhists, Nazarenes and Romanists in this town. Qingyan Ancient Town is really a good place for you to learn about Chinese ancient culture.

Xiangzhi Valley

The Xiangzhi Valley is located about 40 km northeast of downtown Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. The name of this scenic area is derived from its traditional product Xiang Zhi. Made from bamboo, this paper is used to commemorate the dead and originates from the Ming Dynasty. Xiangzhi Valley is a beautiful and mysterious place. There are mountains, rivers, forests and bamboo groves in Xiangzhi Valley. There are 7 scenic spots in Xiangzhi Valley, and you can see falling springs, flying waterfalls, overhanging precipices and rocks, marvelous peaks and peculiar stones in this valley.
