The Queen of Hills

Mussoorie the Queen of Hills Mussoorie is located in the Garhwal hills. Mussoorie is known as the queen of hill stations. In 1820 Captain Young from the British army was influenced by the beauty of this place and made this place his residence. This marked the foundation of a hill station called Mussoorie. The name, Mussoorie, is derived from plants of 'Mussoorie' which were found in abundance here. After its discovery, this hill station gradually developed as a center of education, business, tourism and beauty.Mussoorie is located at a height of 2,500 meters in the green Himalayan range. Mussoorie is conveniently connected by road to Delhi and major cities. It is called the "Gateway" to Yamunotri and Gangotri Shrines of Northern India. The closest rail station is Dehradun. Taxis are easily available for Mussoorie as are buses at regular intervals.

Climate

The climate of Mussoorie is mild and entirely comfortable in summers, temperature wavering below 30º C, winters are very cold, and temperature falls drastically. .

Tourist Attraction in or Near by Musoorie

 

Kempty Falls:

This is the biggest waterfall and one of the most popular tourist spots of Mussoorie. If you visit during the summer, this is one place you simply have to go to because what can be better than going into a refreshingly cool waterfall on a hot summer day? At an altitude of 1,370 meters, the Kempty Falls are 15 kms from Mussoorie on the way to Yamnotri. The waterfall is located in a valley and the surrounding mountains provide not only a picturesque background but a feeling of being cocooned in the mountains.

 

Company Garden:

This is one of the most popular picnic spots in Mussoorie, at a distance of 4 kms, which can be reached either on foot or by car. It has a beautiful garden, an artificial lake with boating facilities and several restaurants and curio shops. The Ferris wheel here is a favourite with visitors, as are the photo galleries which rent out traditional costumes for visitors to pose in.

 

Tibetan Temple :

This temple is located in Happy valley area of Mussoorie. Both Company gardens and Tibetan temple can be seen in one day. They are located one kilometer from Lal Bahadur Shastri National Administrative Academy. The Tibetan temple is evidence to rich Tibetan cultural heritage. This temple is sure to attract attention of tourists.

Mussoorie Lake:

Another newly developed tourist project, the Mussoorie Lake boasts of a spectacular view of the Doon Valley and the several small villages on the mountainside on the way to Mussoorie. It has a lake with boating facilities and is 6 kms away on theMussoorie-Dehradun highway.

Lake Mist:

This place is 7 kms on way to kempty falls. Lake mist offers a perfect resting place for tired and weary tourists.Here is a good accommodation facilities.

Nag Devta Temple:

On the way up to Mussoorie from Dehradun on the Cart Mackenjee Road, 6 kms before Mussoorie is this ancient temple devoted to Shiva. Conveniently located on the way to Mussoorie, it is a popular temple for both regular devotees as well as visitors, who make it a point to stop here on their journey to and from Mussoorie.

Lal Tibba

Lal Tibba is the highest point of Mussoorie. There is a high power binocular kept here which provides a close and magnificent view of snow covered gangotri,kedarnath and Nanda Devi.

Bhatta falls

Bhatta falls 7 Kms. from Mussoorie. Accessible by car or bus upto Bhatta from where the fall is 3 kms by foot. The place is bathing and picnic spot.

Dhanaulti
