Quebec City is the capital of the Canadian province of Quebec. The narrowing of the Saint Lawrence River proximate to the city's promontory, Cap Diamant and the river narrows. Quebec City is the capital city of the province of Quebec though it is referred to as the National Capital in the province. Much of the business here is of the administrative and bureaucratic nature, which would normally make a city quite dull. Fortunately, the city has a remarkable history, as the fortress capital of New France since the 16th century.

La Citadelle de Québec

The Citadelle is a military installation and official residence located atop Cap Diamant, adjoining the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. This citadel is part of the fortifications of Quebec City. The Citadelle is a National Historic Site of Canada, and also forms part of the Fortifications of Quebec National Historic Site of Canada. The fortress is located within the Historic District of Old Quebec, which was designated a World Heritage Site in 1985. Musée de la Civilisation

Located in the lower or riverfront portion of the city’s Old Quarter, this museum is a relatively recent addition to Québec City’s attractions. The Musée de la civilisation Museum of Civilization is a museum located in Quebec City. It is situated in the historic Old Québec area near the Saint Lawrence River. It was designed by architect Moshe Safdie, and opened its doors to the public on December 19th, 1988. Place Royale

Place Royale is the spiritual heart of Québec City and French Canada. History of Quebec City

Quebec City, capital of the province of Quebec, Canada, is one of the oldest European settlements in North America. Quebec City was founded by the French explorer and navigator Samuel de Champlain in 1608. Prior to the arrival of the French, the location that would become Quebec was the home of a small Iroquois village called Stadacona. Jacques Cartier, a French explorer, was the first European to ascend the St. Lawrence Gulf, claiming for France the land that later became New France, he and his crew spend a harsh winter near Stadacona during his second voyage in 1535.

Old Montreal

Old Montreal is the oldest area in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, dating back to New France. Located in the borough of Ville Marie, the area is bordered on the west by McGill St., on the north by Ruelle des Fortifications, on the east by Rue Saint Andre and on the south by the Saint Lawrence River. Following recent amendments, the district has been expanded slightly to include the rue des Soeurs Grises in the west, Saint Antoine St. in the north and Saint Hubert Street in the east. Notre Dame Basilica

Notre Dame Basilica is a basilica in the historic district of Old Montreal, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The church is located at 110 Notre Dame Street West, at the corner of Saint Sulpice Street. It is located next to the Saint Sulpice Seminary and faces the Place d'Armes square. The church's Gothic Revival architecture is among the most dramatic in the world its interior is grand and colourful, its ceiling is coloured deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is a polychrome of blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues. Unusual for a church, the stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal. It also has a Casavant Frères pipe organ, dated 1891, which comprises four keyboards, 92 stops using electropneumatic action and an adjustable combination system, 7000 individual pipes and a pedal board.

Magdalen Islands

The Magdalen Islands form a small archipelago in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence with a land area of 205.53 square km. Though closer to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, the islands form part of the Canadian province of Quebec. The islands form the territory equivalent to a regional county municipality and census division of Les Îles de la Madeleine. The islands also form the urban agglomeration of Les Îles de la Madeleine, divided into two municipalities. These are Les Îles de la Madeleine, the central municipality, and Grosse Île. The current mayors are Joêl Arseneau and Rose Elmonde Clarke.

Montreal Botanical Gardens

The Montreal Botanical Garden is a large botanical garden in Montreal, Quebec, Canada comprising 75 hectares of thematic gardens and greenhouses. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2008 as it is considered to be one of the most important botanical gardens in the world due to the extent of its collections and facilities. The garden was founded in 1931, in the height of the Great Depression, by mayor Camillien Houde, after years of campaigning by Brother Marie Victorin. The grounds were designed by Henry Teuscher, while the Art Deco style administration building was designed by architect Lucien F. Kéroack.

Place d'Armes

Place d'Armes is a square in Old Montreal quarter of Montreal, in Quebec, Canada. Place d'Armes is the second oldest public site in Montreal, it was called Place de la Fabrique when it was first developed in 1693, at the request of the Sulpicians, then later renamed Place d'Armes in 1721 when it became the stage of various military events. From 1781 to 1813, it was used as a hay and wood market, then developed as a Victorian garden after it was acquired by the city in 1836.
