Zhangjiajie is a prefecture level city in the northwestern part of Hunan province in China. It comprises the district of Yongding and counties of Cili and Sangzhi. Zhangjiajie City features a variety of different terrains including mountainous regions, upland areas, plains, and Karst rock areas. Among these, the mountains cover 76 percent of the total area. The world famous natural heritage site Wulingyuan Scenic Area is located on the base of these great mountains. Areas worth visiting include Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Suoxiyu Natural Resource Reserve, and Tianzi Mountain Natural Resource Reserve. The scenic area hosts many natural features including mountains, forests, caves, lakes and waterfalls and perhaps there are more than three thousand rock ridges and eight hundred ghylls. The history of Zhangjiajie can be traced back to the Neolithic Age. There are three main ethnic minority groups Tujia, Bai, Miao and other 29 minority groups living harmoniously with the Han Nationality. Many different folk cultures converge here and the visitor can experience the various folk-customs, clothing, decorations, dance and music.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a unique national forest park located in Zhangjiajie City in northern Hunan Province in the People's Republic of China. It is one of several national parks within the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. It is a unique national forest park as one of the component of Wulingyuan Natural Resort. Here are more than 3000 surprising pillar like formations pulling out from earth and seen throughout the park. The peaks are in varied shapes, some looks lie a human, some looks like objects and some are in the shape of animals, etc. Vivid formations can be found everywhere of this national forest park. Wulingyuan Scenic Area

Wulingyuan is a scenic and historic interest area in Hunan Province, China, noted for its approximately 3,100 tall quartzite sandstone pillars, some of which are over 800 metres in height and are a type of karst formation. The site is in the Zhangjiajie City and lies about 270 km from Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province. Wulingyuan forms part of the Wuling Range. The scenic area comprises several national parks, one of which is the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Being a complete quartz and sandstone geomorphological structure, Wulingyuan boasts some 3,100 peaks which look like bamboo shoots spectacular and grotesque, lofty and elegant. It is a real wonder to have such a large forest of natural peaks on the several hundred meter thick quartz and sandstone base. This, plus the mysterious deep valleys and grottos, offers fantastic views.

Phoenix Town

Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park

Tianmen Mountain, located 8km away from Zhangjiajie City, is the highest mountain in Zhangjiajie. Baofeng Lake

World natural heritage Baofeng Lake is reputed as a classical lake in the world. It is located in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, 8km away from Tianzi Mountain and 8km away from Yellow Dragon Cave. Baofeng Lake Scenic Area integrates natural scenery and folk custom together, especially featuring the mirror like lake, the marvelous Befeng waterfall, the mysterious temple. Baofeng Lake is a veritable place of graceful mountains and charming waterway and for all the kind, good gracious and wise people. Baofeng Lake is such a paradise that you would like to visit again and again, whether you have been here or not. Located in the high gorges, a body of crystalline and calm water is surrounded by the emerald mountains. The lake is situated part way up the mountain range, 85 meters above the ground, and attains an altitude of 585 meters. Because of its association with the Baofeng Mountain Range, the lake bears the name of Baofeng.

Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve

The Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve is located in the northeastern part of the Wulingyuan Scenic Zone in Zhangjiajie. A stream flows through the mountain gully and many high peaks in various forms on both sides of gully shrouded in drifting mist look like a group of nature sculptures. Suoxi Valley covers an area of more than 180 square kilometers and is the largest of the three zones. Unlike the solitary stone monoliths of Zhangjiajie, the mountains of Suoxiyu stretch out one after another, like an unfolding scroll of a Chinese painting. However, in the east, there is a collection of caves, for example, Yellow Dragon Cave and Goddess Cave. These are caves made of limestone.

Golden Whip Stream

Located in the east of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, named after the 380-meter high Golden Whip Rock, Golden Whip Stream meanders 15 Li. Flowing from Laomo Gully first to Confluence of Four Rivers then to Suoxi Stream, it finally joins Li river, one of the four rivers in Hunan Province. It flows between steep grotesque peaks and luxuriant trees. Here, the meandering streams, the crystal clear waterfalls, exotic plants and rare animals co exist and constitute the extraordinarily beautiful, tranquil and natural ecological environment. No wonder it is called the most beautiful valley in the world and the most poetic stream. The major scenic spots include Rock of Welcoming Guests, Golden Whip Rock, Reunion Rock and the Purple Grass Pond.

Dragon King Cave

Dragon King Cave is located one the east direction of Wulingyuan Scenic Area with a 10-km distance. It is the code scenic spot of Zhangjiajie Scenic Area. With its unique scenes, Dragon King Cave is reputed as the most featuring karst cave in the world. Ranking as the oldest and largest karst cave, it is a potential tourism spot for people to exploring. The totally length of this cave is about 30km. With an average height of 50 meter and width of 80 meters, there are 58 halls, 28 stone corridors, 15 pearl waterfalls, 3 underground rivers, 2 lakes and 45 pools. Tourists who are walking around these fantastic sites will feel the magic power of the nature.

Huangshi Village

Huangshi Village, located in Wulingyuan Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie, is one of the top 5 highlight travel itineraries of China. It is said that during the Han Dunasty, Zhang Liang quitted from the political field and started his round tour. When he came to this area, he was blocked by officials. And finally, his teacher named Huang Shi Gong helped him to ran away. From then on, this place was called Huangshi Village. Huangshi Fort, named after a hermit Huangshi. It provides the largest collection of marvelous spectacles and also provides the larges sightseeing terrace above sea level in Zhangjiajie.
